HVAC Tune up

Do you neglect having your HVAC system tuned up? Did you know that you can actually save money by having it tuned up? It's true. You should have your system checked out and cleaned every year. Not only does it prolong the life of your unit, it can also save your life. With having it cleaned and inspected every year your service man can find cracks in the heat exchanger if there are any. That is what can save your life because if you have a crack in your heat exchanger, you can get carbon monoxide poisoning. Most heat exchangers are covered under a lifetime warranty so most of the time the only thing you have to pay for is the labor of having it replaced, although if your unit is slightly older, you might be better off just having a new unit installed as sometimes the labor costs can be expensive. Besides that part of the tune up, the cleaning takes care of getting rid of built up dust on the blower wheel, which causes short cycling and overheating because with the bult up dust on the wheel, it can't move the amount of air that it is designed to move. Other things that are taken care of are rusted or plugged burners, cleaning the flame sensor, cleaning all of the condensate drains, hoses and traps, making sure your intake and exhaust pipes don't have any obstructions and check all of the wiring connections. I know that it is hard to trust people now a days, so when you have a service technician come out to have this done, don't be afraid to watch them and ask them questions about what they are doing. A good, honest service technician will not mind this at all. I actually encourage my customers to watch what I do and explain to them why I am doing it. Now the cost of this service will vary by company and some companies will offer a service or maintenance agreement with the inspection and cleaning included in the price. Having said all of this, the way that you will save money from this is because you have improved the efficiency of your unit as well as eliminating some of the small things that can cause a service call which will cost you more especially if it is an after hours service call.
